Wow! Has it really been an entire decade since The Vaughns banded together?
Time sure flies when you’re having fun! And to celebrate their 10th anniversary, their single and video for “Turnaround” is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.
As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Turnaround” also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 22 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The Penguin and MixCloud.
“Turnaround,” a song about fear and how it has the ability to take over and dictate our lives, is the second single and video from “Egg Everything,” The Vaughns’ full-length debut for Equal Vision Records. “Egg Everything” follows the band’s 2021 EP, “rom-coms + take-out,” their first venture for the Albany-based indie, home to Coheed and Cambria. Both Vaughns EV releases were engineered and produced by Hop Along’s Joe Reinhart.
The album’s first single and video was the jittery post-punk swagger of “Gizzards.”
But perhaps the most heralded “Egg Everything” track is “Day by Day,” which was deemed by Rolling Stone as one of their “Songs You Need to Know,” alongside Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez.
The new album’s third single and lyrical video features the first-ever words penned by drummer Ryan Kenter. He also recorded guitar for the first time on the cathartic track about a family battling cancer.
Throughout their decade-long history, The Vaughns also self-released the 2018 LP, “F.O.M.O.,” and the 2015 EP, “tomfoolery.”
See them live Jan. 5 at Bowery Electric in New York City with Modern Chemistry, Imani Graham, and HOLDEN. The Vaughns have been touring so much, they didn’t have a chance to play an album release show, but one is in the works for early 2024.
