(NEWARK, NJ) -- Arts Ed Newark joins a special collaboration between Newark Arts, Newark City Parks, The City of Newark, Newark Arts & Education District on Make Music Day Newark, a unique one-day event where free, live musical performances, opportunities to make music and other musical events take on the longest day of the year, June 21, 2024. Musical festivities in Newark are hosted by Make Music Day Ambassador and Newark based Artist, Daryl L. Stewart.
Originally conceived of in France as Fête de la Musique as an annual celebration beginning in 1982, Make Music Day has since grown to encompass over 1,000 cities across the globe, including Newark since 2021, where activations and ideas for young people were coordinated by Arts Ed Newark as a “safe summer” initiative.
“Arts Ed Newark has been proud to host Make Music Day in Newark since 2021, and are so excited about the expansion this year with key Newark partners who allow more Newarkers to experience the power of music!" says Arts Ed Newark Director Lauren G. Meehan.
This year, free, live musical performances, opportunities to make music and other musical events will occur on Friday June 21, 2024 in parks, local businesses, community sites and more all day long for everyone to enjoy. A full listing of all the events will be made available on June 11th, 2024 with locations and times. All events will be free and open to the general public. Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day – Newark is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.
