(LEONIA, NJ) -- Gallery Episode presents "Sound of Nature," a solo exhibition featuring artist Seungmee Yoo from March 1-8, 2024. Seungmee Yoo has been a painter for over 40 years, receiving her MFA in Painting from Seoul National University of Science & Technology. Since immigrating to the United States in 2000, Yoo has continued to paint full time and has exhibited in cities in Korea, Japan, and the United States. "Sound of Nature" will feature paintings from throughout Yoo's artistic career, as well as more recent paintings that were created in preparation for her exhibition in Tokyo later this year.

While she concentrated in abstract painting during her undergraduate studies, Seungmee Yoo’s work shifted into realism as she entered graduate school. Despite this shift however, Yoo continues to use her background in abstraction as a tool for her current paintings. As the viewer approaches closer to the painting, the utilized brush strokes capture the energy of the subject and the lines between abstraction and realism begin to blur. Heavily inspired by nature, Yoo’s subject matter is often quiet moments that feature the natural landscapes or people of Korea. While quiet and calming in scenery, Yoo is able to capture the vitality in her subject matter through layers and layers of oil paints. Yoo continues her search for this vitality as she becomes closer with nature.
