(BLACKWOOD, NJ) -- Mainstage Center for the Arts presents "Newsies JR." as part of their Summer Stage program this week. This condensed, family-friendly adaptation of the 1992 Disney film and the 2012 Broadway musical is bound to be a hit with audiences of all ages. Performances will be held on Thursday, July 18 at 7:00pm and Friday, July 19 at 7:00pm at the Dennis Flyer Memorial Theater, located at Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ.

Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, the story follows a courageous group of newsboys who become unlikely heroes when they stand up against powerful newspaper publishers. The musical centers on Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged "newsies," who dreams of a better life far from the hardships of the streets.

When publishing giants Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. With the help of the spirited reporter, Katherine Plumber, the newsies learn to harness their voices and stand up against injustice. The story is a testament to the power of community, friendship, and the importance of standing up for what is right.

Tickets for "Newsies JR." are available in advance at www.mainstage.org for $18 for adults and $13 for children/senior citizens. Tickets purchased at the door will be $20 for adults and $15 for children/seniors.  The Dennis Flyer Memorial Theater is located at 200 College Drive in Blackwood, New Jersey.

Under the direction of Summer Stage alumni Jared Jefferson and a talented team of professional artists, these young performers have been diligently rehearsing for four weeks to bring this story to life. The result is a high-energy production that promises to captivate audiences of all ages.
