Ruthie Foster is a five-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who mixes a wide palette of American song forms, from gospel and blues to jazz, folk and soul. Vivid Stage Presents Summer Solos Every Week in July at the Visual Arts Center of NJ. (SUMMIT, NJ) -- Vivid Stage presents Summer Solos readings every week from July 1-24, 2024 at the Visual Arts Center of NJ at 68 Elm Street in Summit. Performances in the series will take place on the lawn of the Arts Center at 6:30pm.​​​​​​​ Patrons are invited to bring chairs or blankets and a picnic dinner. The rain and extreme heat location for all performances is the Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ.

Wednesday, July 24 - Shea Center for the Performing Arts presents Brian Lynch and Spheres of Influence. (WAYNE, NJ) -- The Shea Center for the Performing Arts presents Brian Lynch and Spheres of Influence on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 7:30pm. Premiere Stages presents "Still" - a play based on true events in 1850s NJ. (UNION, NJ) -- Premiere Stages at Kean University will present the premiere production of Still by Benjamin V. Marshall, the recipient of the 2023/24 Liberty Live Commission, July 11-28 in Kean University's Bauer Boucher Theatre Center. Directed by Marshall Jones III, Still will feature actors Ashley Nicole Baptiste, D. Malik Beckford, Brian D. Coats, Perri Gaffney, Carl Hendrick Louis, and Nafeesa Monroe. Phoenix Productions presents "West Side Story". (RED BANK, NJ) -- Phoenix Productions presents West Side Story from July 26-28, 2024 at Count Basie Center for the Arts.  Don't miss this classic musical in which Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City.

Tuesday, July 23 - Styx, Foreigner, and John Waite to Play Shows in Holmdel and Camden. (CAMDEN, NJ) -- Ten years is a long enough wait for two powerhouse and legendary classic rockers to hit the road together again! Styx and Foreigner who continue with the next leg of their two-year Farewell Tour team up this summer for the "Renegades & Juke Box Heroes" co-headlining trek, produced by Live Nation. Legendary British rocker, John Waite, will bring his #1 songs, "Missing You" and "When I See You Smile" to the party, rounding out a great night of hits. The tour comes to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 and to the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Wednesday, July 24 - A Look at the Musical Acts at 2024 Monmouth County Fair. (FREEHOLD, NJ) -- The Monmouth County Fair is almost here and brings with it incredible live musical performances. The fun kicks off with The Counterfeiters from 8:15pm-9:00pm and 9:30pm-10:15pm on Wednesday, July 24. Playing a little bit of everything - hits from '80s and '90s, hip hop, pop and more - this ultimate party band will have the audience dancing the night away.

Thursday, July 25 - Banned From Utopia featuring Frank Zappa Alumni to Play Williams Center for the Arts. (RUTHERFORD, NJ) -- Banned From Utopia featuring legendary Frank Zappa alumni Ray White, Bobby Martin and Scott Thunes, will be touring North America with The Paul Green Rock Academy this summer. The We Love Zappa Tour celebrates the music of Frank Zappa from all eras and comes to the Williams Center for the Arts on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 7:30pm.

Thursday, July 25 - Shea Center for the Performing Arts presents The Tia Fuller Trio. (WAYNE, NJ) -- Shea Center for the Performing Arts presents The Tia Fuller Trio on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 7:30pm. A force in the musical words of jazz, pop and R&B, Tia Fuller had completed a Master's degree in Jazz Pedagogy and Performance when she was selected to tour with pop star Beyonce. Fuller became a featured soloist on Beyonce's tours and performances across the globe, making many DVDs and recordings with the pop icon.

Friday, July 26 - Shea Center for Performing Arts presents Wycliffe Gordon and Friends. (WAYNE, NJ) -- On Friday, July 26, 2024, Shea Center for Performing Arts presents Wycliffe Gordon and Friends. Wycliffe Gordon is one of the most outstanding trombonists today, and is also a composer, and arranger. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Saturday, July 27 - Scottish Rite Auditorium presents The Fab Four: The Ultimate Tribute. (COLLINGSWOOD, NJ) -- The Camden County Board of Commissioners presents The Fab Four: The Ultimate Tribute at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Saturday, July 27 - Andrea Wolper Trio to Perform at the Puffin Cultural Forum. (TEANECK, NJ) -- Andrea Wolper, a notable figure in the New York jazz scene, is set to grace the stage at the Puffin Cultural Forum on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 7:00pm. Known for headlining at esteemed venues such as the Blue Note, Dizzy's Club, and Birdland, Andrea Wolper has also previously served as President of International Women in Jazz, and served on the Advisory Board of the Jazz Vocal Coalition.

Saturday, July 27 - Melody Trucks & Fitzkee Brothers Band To Headline Rootsapalooza at The Wonder Bar. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Acclaimed Southern Roots-rock vocalist and percussionist Melody Trucks is bringing her musical buddies The Fitzkee Brothers Band on the road with her for the Road to Roots 2024 Tour, performing locally as part of Rootsapalooza at Wonder Bar on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 7:30pm. The lineup also includes Des & the Swagmatics, Matt O'Ree Band, Ryan Gregg & Friends, and a Roots Rock Revival All Star Jam.

Sunday, July 28 - Matt Chertkoff Trio and Houston Person to Kick off 2024 Music at the Barn series. (HACKENSACK, NJ) -- Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, the Board of Commissioners, and the Bergen County Parks Department announced the return of Music at the Barn hosted by the County's Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs. The first concert in the 2024 series at the Wortendyke Barn (13 Pascack Rd, Park Ridge, NJ) will feature the Matt Chertkoff Trio and Houston Person on Sunday, July 28, from 4:00pm–6:30pm.

Monday, July 29 - Ocean City Music Pier presents 10cc on July 29th. (OCEAN CITY, NJ) -- One of the most inventive and influential bands in the history of pop music, 10cc, will perform live on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the Ocean City Music Pier. The band’s 2024 Ultimate, Ultimate Greatest Hits Tour is the group's first in over three decades. Showtime is 7:00pm.

THEATRE

PHOTOS from "Footloose" at Surflight Theatre. (BEACH HAVEN, NJ) -- Surflight Theatre is presenting the musical, Footloose from July 9-28, 2024. Based on the classic 80s film, the play follows big-city teenager, Ren, relocates from Chicago to the small rural town of Bomont, where its inhabitants have imposed an unjust ban on Rock 'n' Roll and dancing. West Side Story Comes to the Ritz Theatre. A local production of "West Side Story" is coming to the Ritz Theatre in Haddon Township, New Jersey, running from July 12 through July 28, 2024. Director Edwin Rico Santiago pays homage to the iconic dance-driven musical which first leaped onto the stage in 1957 when it premiered on Broadway, followed by a popular film version released in 1961 and Steven Spielberg's Hollywood remake in 2021. Choreographer Jen Gordon also steps into the illustrious shoes of Jerome Robbins who choreographed and directed the original stage production and film adaptation of this musical theater classic.

Scott Ehrenpreis Shares His Inspiring Mental Health Journey in solo show, "Clowns Like Me". (NEW YORK, NY) -- Mental illness is no laughing matter, but in the new solo show Clowns Like Me, audience members are encouraged to laugh, cry and enjoy the ride into the unknown. Clowns Like Me will have its New York Off-Broadway Premiere at the DR2 Theatre this summer. The witty, timely, and inspiring story is based on Sarasota actor and storyteller Scott Ehrenpreis’ true life struggles with mental illness and its stigmas. The play was written by Jason Cannon, who also directs. Previews begin on June 21, for a limited engagement through August 18, 2024.

Shakepeare Theatre of NJ presents "The Book of Will" by Lauren Gunderson. (MADISON, NJ) -- How far would you go to honor and preserve a friend's legacy? What if that friend was William Shakespeare and his plays were about to be lost to history forever? Lauren Gunderson's acclaimed play The Book of Will shines a light on the amazing true story of two ordinary men whose love for their friend and his genius continues to influence our world four centuries after Shakespeare's death. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will present The Book of Will at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre on the campus of Drew University from July 10-28, 2024.

Centenary Stage Company's Summer Musical Series Includes 'Grease' and 'I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change'. (HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- This summer, Centenary Stage Company presents the 2024 summer musical series featuring Grease and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. Performances for Grease will run July 11–21 and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change will run August 1-11 in the Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center of the Centenary University campus in Hackettstown.

NJ Rep presents the World Premiere of "The Bookstore" by Michael Walek. (LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- New Jersey Repertory Company (NJ Rep) presents the world premiere of The Bookstore by Michael Walek from July 11 through August 4, 2024. The play takes place in a small independent bookstore in New York City, like the ones we all love to frequent and are rapidly dying out. Carey, the owner, rolls up the grate, unlocks the front door, carries in boxes, turns on the heater, turns on the kettle, and turns on the lamps and her computer. And so her day begins.

Classic American Tales presents more "Tales at the Dormer House" in July. (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- Pulitzer-prize winner and Algonquin Round Table wit, Edna Ferber (1885 – 1968) wrote short stories, plays, and novels, many requiring extensive research. For example, she lived on a riverboat before writing "Show Boat." Many of her novels were adapted into other mediums, including "Show Boat" (musical) and "Giant." (movie). "The Royal Family" and "Dinner at Eight" were just two of the plays she wrote with George S. Kaufman.

Summer Heats Up at Cape May Stage with the New Jersey Professional Premiere of "Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B". (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- Cape May Stage presents the New Jersey professional premiere of Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B, a fast-paced, comedic, and modern reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous sleuth and sidekick. Written by award-winning playwright Kate Hamill, this lively production is set to open on July 17th and runs through August 25, 2024, with shows Tuesday through Sunday nights at 8:00pm.

Center Players presents 'Coyote' - an original musical about love & immigration. (FREEHOLD, NJ) -- Center Players presents Coyote, an original musical by Freehold resident Tim McCorry about love and immigration, at the Park Avenue Complex in Freehold, from July 19-28, 2024.

Brundage Park Playhouse presents Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' in July. (RANDOLPH, NJ) -- Brundage Park Playhouse presents Disney's The Little Mermaid across two weekends (July 19-21 and July 26-28). This is a stage musical produced by Disney Theatrical, based on the animated 1989 Disney film of the same name and the classic story by Hans Christian Andersen about a mermaid who dreams of the world above the sea and gives up her voice to find true love. It features a Book by Doug Wright; Music by Alan Menken; and Lyrics by Howard Ashman & Glen Slater.

The Theater League of Clifton presents Madcap Whodunit "Murder on the Menu". (CLIFTON, NJ) -- The Theater League of Clifton will present its second dinner/theater production of the season, "Murder on the Menu," beginning on Saturday, July 20, 7:30pm, at Mario's Restaurant (710 Van Houten Ave) in Clifton.

"The Prom" Enters Final Weekend at Broadway Theatre of Pitman. (PITMAN, NJ) -- There are just four performances left for The Prom at Broadway Theatre of Pitman. Broadway's hit musical comedy closes on Sunday, July 28, 2024. In the play, four eccentric Broadway stars are in desperate need of a new stage. So when they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue... and themselves.

Black Box presents a Staged Reading of "Seascape" by Edward Albee. (TEANECK, NJ) -- In association with The Estate of Edward Albee, Black Box presents a dynamic staged reading of Seascape (1974, Pulitzer Prize) on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024 at Debonair Music Hall. Admission is free, but seating is limited; please reserve seats in advance. On an isolated stretch of beach, a late-middle-aged couple facing the dubious redoubt of retirement muses about their shared life and the narrowing road ahead. She sketches; he naps; they gently parry and riposte.

Chatham Playhouse to Host 30th Annual Jersey Voices: One-Act Festival. (CHATHAM, NJ) -- The Chatham Community Players (CCP) will host its 30th annual Jersey Voices One-Act Festival with six performances between July 26 and August 4, 2024. This year's production will include seven original short plays written by New Jersey playwrights. The evening of seven one-act plays enables writers to showcase original scripts while allowing directors and actors to experiment with new roles.

Dover Little Theatre presents "Pterodactyls". (DOVER, NJ) -- Dover Little Theatre presents "Pterodactyls" by Nicky Silver across three weekends from July 26 to August 10, 2024. This is an absurdist black comedy about the demise of the Duncan family, and, by extension, the species.

New Jersey Lyric Opera Returns to Kelsey Theatre for Summer Opera Festival. (WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- New Jersey Lyric Opera (NJLO) returns to Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre for a second year with a weekend of opera favorites on MCCC's West Windsor Campus, July 26-28, 2024 during the Summer Opera Festival. Set with a wide range of emotions and melodies, the festival weekend features presentations by talented artists from the tri-state region and beyond. The weekend includes the presentation of three opera's, plus the Gala Spectacular, a showcase of opera favorites.

Music Mountain Theatre presents "The King and I". (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) -- Music Mountain Theatre (MMT) presents a four-weekend run of The King and I from July 26 – August 18, 2024. This is the classic musical from the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. It is the tenth mainstage show of MMT's 2024 season.

Old Library Theatre presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. (FAIR LAWN, NJ) -- Old Library Theatre (OLT), Fair Lawn Recreation Department's resident theatre company, will present Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella over two weekends, July 26 through August 4, 2024. Performances are on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00pm, with Sunday matinees at 2:00pm.

Friday, July 26 - Ocean Casino Resort presents comedian Matt Rife. (ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) -- Comedian and actor, Matt Rife, takes the stage at Ocean Casino Resort's Ovation Hall on Friday, July 26, 2024. Rife is best known for guest roles on the sketch comedy and improv game show series Wild 'n Out, as Brandon Bliss on the comedy television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and as Logan on the sitcom television series Fresh Off the Boat. Showtime is 9:00pm.

Saturday, July 27 - NJPAC presents Jordan Klepper. (NEWARK, NJ) -- Jordan Klepper, best known for his work on Comedy Central's The Daily Show and his Emmy-nominated specials focusing on the political world, is bringing his "Suffering Fools" tour to New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 7:30pm.

Saturday, July 27 - New Jersey Symphony Presents the North American Premiere of 'Baahubali: The Beginning' Live in Concert. (NEWARK, NJ) -- Experience India's biggest box-office smash-hit, Baahubali: The Beginning on a vast HD screen while the New Jersey Symphony performs M.M. Keeravani's epic score, live in-sync with the motion picture. The film tells the story of a young orphan, Shivudu (Prabhas), as he embarks on a journey of a lifetime. Performances take place Saturday, July 27, 2024 at NJPAC in Newark and Sunday, July 28, 2024 at State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick.

Saturday, July 27 - Celebrating 30 Years of "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" with a Special Fundraiser Screening at The ShowRoom. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The ShowRoom is thrilled to announce a special 30th anniversary fundraiser screening of the groundbreaking film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on Saturday, July 27th, 2024. This celebratory event will benefit The Center in Asbury Park, an organization dedicated to serving the needs of the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV/AIDS. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Saturday, July 27 - Jersey-raised Raul Acosta returns to Carteret's Latin Fest with legendary merengue Oro Solido on July 27th. (CARTERET, NJ) -- Once again, New Jersey's most popular Latin Fest will return to Carteret Borough's wonderful waterfront on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Waterfront Park & Veteran's Pier.

Saturday, July 27 - Menlo Park Mall to Hold Dining Pavilion Food Festival on Saturday. (TITUSVILLE, NJ) -- Washington Crossing Park Association (WCPA) presents "Table Talk Histories" at the Park's Sullivan Grove Pavilion, near the current Visitors Center Museum, on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. At 3:00pm, there will be a presentation on impending capital improvements for Washington Crossing State Park including its new Museum and Visitor Center, and other capital improvements in preparation for America's 250th Anniversary celebration.
