George Street Playhouse presents "Ibsen's Ghost". (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- George Street Playhouse presents Ibsen's Ghost by Charles Busch from January 16 through February 4, 2024. Based on a few irrefutable facts, the play tells a tall (and hilarious) tale of the legendary Norwegian playwright's wife Suzannah the week after the great man's state funeral. Friday, January 26 - Celebrating Max Roach's Centennial with a New Performance of His Freedom Jazz Suite. On January 10, 2024, Max Roach, one of jazz's most remarkable figures, would have turned 100 years old. The observance of Roach's centennial has coincided with the recent release of the documentary Max Roach: The Drum Also Waltzes, which celebrates the drummer's life and music. While many remember Roach as the pioneering drummer connected to the bebop movement of the mid to late 1940s, a much more incredible story is associated with his mastery, creativity, conviction, and spirit.
National Tour of "Hairspray" comes to MPAC. Music Mountain Theatre presents "Lend Me a Tenor". (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) -- Music Mountain Theatre opens their 2024 season with the Tony award winning comedy, Lend Me a Tenor, weekends from January 12-28, 2024. The play is set in September of 1934 and we see the Cleveland Grand Opera Company's gala season opener, centered on world-famous tenor Tito Morelli, performing as Canio in "Pagliacci," his greatest role. But the opera is jeopardized when Morelli falls into a drunken stupor.
