FEATURED EVENTS

American Repertory Ballet Celebrates 60th Anniversary of The Nutcracker, celebrating an impressive 60-year milestone of captivating audiences and spreading holiday joy throughout New Jersey. As one of the longest-running productions in the United States, ARB's The Nutcracker has become a cherished tradition.

George Street Playhouse presents "Having Our Say", the Tony Award-nominated play by Emily Mann. Having Our Say is adapted from the book by Sarah (Sadie) L. Delany & A. Elizabeth (Bessie) Delany with Amy Hill Hearth and is directed by Laiona Michelle. The production runs through December 17.

The Growing Stage presents "Ella Enchanted" from December 1-17 on Saturdays and Sundays. Written by Karen Zacarias with music by Deborah Wicks La Puma, Ella Enchanted is adapted from the book by Gail Carson Levine and introduces us to Ella of Frell, who is given the "gift" of obedience by Lucinda, her misguided Fairy Godmother.

Algonquin Arts Theatre presents "ELF: The Musical" from December 2-17. Based on the 2003 film, this is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Moorestown Theater Company spreads holiday cheer with "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jr." and the acclaimed youth theater organization will do it all with a cast of elementary and middle school students — as well as a few ninth graders.

Tuesday - bergenPAC Presents Il Divo – A New Day Holiday Tour on Tuesday, December 5 at 8:00pm. This tour will feature the multinational group performing holiday classics, like "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas," "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," and more, in addition to songs from their vast catalog.

Tuesday - MPAC presents Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 7:30pm. Everything new is old again when you take a road trip to experience Life in The Past Lane!

McCarter Theatre presents "A Christmas Carol" starring Joel McKinnon Miller as Scrooge. For more than four decades, McCarter has welcomed more than a million audience members from across Central New Jersey and beyond to experience Charles Dickens' timeless classic. Follow Ebenezer Scrooge on a fantastical journey through Christmases past, present, and future with this family friendly production that runs December 6-24 in the Matthews Theatre.

Wednesday - State Theatre New Jersey presents The Illusionists - Magic of the Holidays on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:30pm. This is an all-new installment of the world-famous, blockbuster touring magic spectacular The Illusionists.

Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents "A Midwinter Night's Dream". Re-seasoned by Bonnie J. Monte and Joseph Discher, with direction by Brian B. Crowe, this production is rife with magical winter wonderment and fun for the whole family. This holiday season do not miss being transported into the dazzling and frosty world of Shakespeare's hilarious romantic comedy that is sure to warm the coldest hearts. This production will run December 6-31.

Thursday - Lizzie Rose Music Room presents Bywater Call on Thursday, December 7 at 7:30pm. Meghan Parnell and Dave Barnes are the driving force behind Bywater Call, a powerhouse 7-piece Southern Soul, Roots Rock band out of Toronto, Canada.

CDC Theatre presents "The Wizard of Oz" December 8-10 and December 15-17. We're off to see the Wizard! This December, the beloved tale of a Kansas farm girl who travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, comes to enchant families during the holidays.

Friday, December 8, 2023 - State Theatre New Jersey presents Vienna Boys Choir - Christmas in Vienna on Friday, December 8 at 8:00pm. Christmas in Vienna showcases these gifted musicians in a program featuring Austrian folk songs, classical masterpieces, popular songs, and holiday favorites.

South Camden Theatre Company presents "Who's Holiday!" across two weekends (December 8-10 and December 15-17). This is a wildly funny and heartfelt adults-only comedy that tells the story of Cindy Lou Who as she recalls that Christmas Eve she first met the Grinch and the twisted turn of events her life has now taken.

Celebrate the Holiday Season with New Jersey Festival Orchestra. From traditional to pops, renowned tenor fare and Broadway favorites, New Jersey Festival Orchestra's Holiday concerts promise to fill the entire family with warmth and cheer.

Saturday The Irish Tenors bring traditional Irish sounds of the season to MPAC. The Irish Tenors -- Anthony Kearns, Ronan Tynan and Declan Kelly – bring the spirit of the holiday season to Mayo Performing Arts Center on Saturday, December 9 at 8:00pm.

Sunday - Jolly Birthday Tribute & Holiday Event Spotlights Frank Sinatra! on Sunday, December 10 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Avon Municipal Building. This event, presented by Karen Morris of Sand Castle Communications LLC, will honor the birthday and career of Frank Sinatra, with a dash of joyous holiday merriment.

Sunday - MPAC presents Girl Named Tom – One More Christmas. The sibling trio Girl Named Tom, winners of 2021 The Voice, perform a holiday concert at Mayo Performing Arts Center on Sunday, December 10 at 7:00pm.

Sunday - State Theatre Presents Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis on Sunday, December 10 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm. This has been America's favorite holiday celebration for over 35 years. Grammy® Award-winner Chip Davis has created a show that features the beloved Christmas music of Mannheim Steamroller along with dazzling multimedia effects to create the perfect intimate setting.

MUSIC

Thursday - Prudential Center Adds Second Show for Jonas Brothers. Following a two-night sold-out run at Yankee Stadium where the Jonas Brothers performed for over 85,000 fans, THE TOUR adds a fifth hometown show for the band - a second night at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on December 7.

Thursday - East Lynne Theater Company hosts "Lennie's Christmas Extravaganza" for three nights - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, December 7-9. Get in the holiday spirit with New York City piano bar favorite Lennie McKenzie, as he brings his "Christmas Cabaret" show back to Cape May.

Friday - NBPAC presents Soultown to Motown: Holiday Show! on December 8 at 8:00pm. Under the tutelage of legendary Jersey Shore saxophonist Screamin' Steve Barlotta, The Sensational Soul Cruisers bring to you their Soultown to Motown Holiday Show. 

Friday - The Levoy Theatre presents An Evening of Holiday Cheer with Jackie Evancho on Friday, December 8 at 8:00pm. The record breaking recording artist first came into the public's eye with her appearance on NBC's America's Got Talent.

A Choral Kind of Weekend in Morristown to Get You Into The Holiday Spirit. Kick off the holidays with a weekend of seasonal music with some of New Jersey's top choral arts organizations beginning with the Harmonium Choral Society on Friday at 7:30pm at The Presbyterian Church in Morristown. Following Harmonium will be The Somerset Hills Chorus and the Chancel Choir of the Presbyterian Church in Morristown on Saturday at 7:00pm. And on Sunday at 3:00pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, the Morris Choral Society joined by The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey and Maestro Robert Butts.

Saturday - Salty's Beach Bar to Celebrate 40th Anniversary of "Valley Girl" on Saturday, December 9 at 7:00pm. The show features performances by Josie Cotton, The Plimsouls, and an opening acoustic set by Kurt Baker of The Leftovers.

Saturday - Sieminski Theater presents Tomáseen Foley's A Celtic Christmas on Saturday, December 9. This is a heartwarming holiday event for the entire family! Performances take place at 3:30pm & 7:30pm.

Saturday - Off-Centre Stages presents "A Very Kelsey Cabaret" for one night only -- December 9 at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Saturday - LoMotion Live presents A Cold Weather Cabaret and Sing a Long on Saturday, December 9 at the Parsippany Arts Center. Some are songs of the season, some are not! Come for the Cabaret, stay for the Sing a Long! Showtime is 8:00pm.

Saturday - The Somerset Hills Chorus present a festive night of Readings & Carols on Saturday, December 9 at 7:00pm.

Saturday - The Wellmont Theatre presents Tab Benoit and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band on Saturday, December 9 at 8:00pm. Dirty Dozen Brass Band will open the night. Benoit is a Grammy nominated singer, songwriter and guitarist who has built a remarkable 30+ year career on the foundation of his gritty and soulful Delta swamp blues, acquiring a devoted legion of fans along the way.

Sunday - NJPAC presents Patti LaBelle on December 10th. One of contemporary music's living legends, LaBelle, is a Grammy Award winning American singer, author and actress who has spent over 50 years in the music industry.

Sunday - The Newton Theatre presents Twelve Twenty-Four on Sunday, December 10 at 3:00pm. The band brings a high energy, full-scale, holiday rock orchestra concert featuring everyone's favorite rock-edge holiday music as well, as their own holiday creations.

Sunday - New Jersey Youth Symphony Presents Family-Friendly All That Jazz! Holiday Concert on December 10 at the Margaret Williams Theatre at New Jersey City University in Jersey City. On this enchanting music-filled journey, the award-winning NJYS Youth Symphony led by Helen H. Cha-Pyo will bring the magic of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite to life. Showtime is 3:00pm.

Sunday - Royal Bopsters to Preview Some Songs from New Album at December Jersey Jazz LIVE! in Madison. What do the Gershwins' "But Not For Me", Harold Arlen's "My Shining Hour", and Tadd Dameron's "On a Misty Night" have in common? All three songs were on the Royal Bopsters' Motema Music album, Party of Four, which DownBeat Magazine's Allen Morrison called "an entertaining gem", giving it four stars.

Monday - Miwi La Lupa and James Hatem to Perform at The Exchange in Rockaway on Monday, December 11 at 7:00pm. Miwi La Lupa, known for his work with Bright Eyes and the Conor Oberst band with blues-rock artist James Hatem, who is returning home to Rockaway, has graced the stage with icons like The Rolling Stones, Dolly Parton, and Ricky Skaggs.

THEATRE

Cape May Stage presents "A Tuna Christmas" from November 15 through December 30. Spend the holidays in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas! With twenty-two different characters, dozens of costume changes, and just two actors, this play is a fun-filled, satirical look inside the workings of a small town at Christmas.

Lewis Center for the Arts presents When Pages Breathe, a series of events highlighting oral interpretation of literary works, a series of three events that highlight the oral interpretation of literary works. The series is conceived in collaboration with the Princeton University Library's current exhibition, In the Company of Good Books: Shakespeare to Morrison, and Lecturer in Theater Chesney Snow's fall course, "The Oral Interpretation of Toni and William."

Mile Square Theatre presents "The Christmas Tree Farm" from November 30 through December 23. This is a heartwarming, bittersweet comedy about love and joy. Get a glimpse of your neighbors in a collection of delicious, bite-sized scenes including a breakup, a breakdown, a meet cute, four Santas, high school sweethearts, a film director and a group of carolers - all taking place at a Christmas Tree Farm! The production is directed by Rachel Dart.

Vanguard Theater presents "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill" Thursdays through Sundays from November 30 through December 17.  To kick off their third Mainstage season in Montclair, Vanguard Theater Company presents the Tony Award-winning musical play, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. Vanguard Theater will be transformed into Emerson's, a seedy bar in South Philadelphia. Guests will be up close and personal, seated just a few short steps from the music and the history, to take in every word and note of this intimate portrait of the celebrated Lady Day.

Asbury Park Theater Company presents "Always... Patsy Cline" starring Sally Struthers and Carter Calvert from December 1-10 at The Palaia Theater inside Jersey Shore Arts Center in the neighboring town of Ocean Grove.

West Hudson Arts & Theater Company presents "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". The holiday production opens for six performances run starting December 1 at The Theater at WHATCo, 15 Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. South, Harrison NJ.

Haddonfield Plays & Players presents "An American in Paris", a Tony-winning Broadway musical, from December 1-16. This is the romantic, dance-filled story of a young American soldier, a beautiful French girl, and an indomitable European city... all set to the immortal score from George and Ira Gershwin. The production stars Monica Matteo in the role of Lise Bouvier, whose previous work at the theater includes Urinetown and Cabaret.

Hackensack Performing Arts Center presents "The Christmas Caper" December 8-9. Written and composed by MaryAnn DiMaria and Nick Picciallo, The Christmas Caper is a two-act ninety-minute seasonal fantasy saga of Santa's stolen sleigh.

Ritz Theatre Company presents World Premiere of "Hollystalk" from December 1-17. The Ritz Theatre Company presents the world premiere production of its second-ever original holiday panto, Hollystalk (Or, How a Giant of a Mistake Became the Best Christmas Surprise!), a fast-paced and fun-filled musical romp inspired by Great Britain's beloved theatrical tradition of holiday pantomime.

First Avenue Playhouse presents "A Christmas Chaos" by Michael Wehrli in December. When the Royal Shakespeare Company doesn’t show up to perform their  stirring rendition of a Christmas Carol it’s up to this intrepid band of hapless actors and technicians to put together their own production in less than seven hours.

Bergen County Players presents "A Christmas Carol, The Musical" weekends from December 2-17. This is Broadway heavy-hitters Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens's musical adaptation of the timeless Charles Dickens tale A Christmas Carol. It tells the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge through a lavish and thrilling score.

Disney's "The Little Mermaid" Enters Final Week at Centenary Stage Company; it runs until December 10 in the Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center of the Centenary University campus. Follow the journey of Ariel, a young mermaid with an unquenchable thirst for exploration and her quest to find true love, and where she truly belongs; in the sea she's always known or the mysterious land of the world above.

Black Box presents a Reading of Edward Albee's "The Play About The Baby" on December 6 as the next monthly staged reading in Edward Albee: From A To Zoo, An Exclusive Stage Reading Series of Edward Albee's Plays.

Tony Award-winning Actor Bill Irwin to Perform "On Beckett" at Two River Theater December 7-10 on the Joan and Robert M. Rechnitz stage. Two River Theater is proud to present Tony Award-winning actor and master clown Bill Irwin in his one-man show.

Studio Players presents "It's a Wonderful Life: The Radio Play" across two weekends (December 8-10 and December 15-17). Adapted by Liz Zazzi from the Lux Radio Theater archives, the production is directed by Sharon Garry.

Kelsey Theatre Presents "Twas the Night Before Christmas" December 8-10. The excitement and wonder of the long-awaited midnight visit by Santa Claus, made famous in Clement Moore's beloved poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas," is brought to life in a fun and enchanting musical perfect for even the entire family.

Dover Little Theatre Presents "Kinky Boots" weekends from December 8-30. This high-energy and heartwarming show is set to captivate audiences with its dazzling performances, fun music, and powerful messages of acceptance and self-discovery. The production is directed by Ruthanne and Larry Pelham.

Old Library Theatre presents "Marvin's Room" – winner of the 1991-1992 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play - from December 8-10. Written by Scott McPherson, Marvin's Room takes its title from the space in which family patriarch Marvin Wakefield spends all the hours of his days now that he’s reached the end stages of his life's journey. He and his sister, Ruth, are tended to by his eldest daughter, Bessie. They’re the unchosen family who chose to remain together.

Lewis Center for the Arts' Program in Theater & Music Theater presents "Gaucho: A New Musical", co-written by Princeton senior Aaron Ventresca, directed by Princeton alumnus and faculty member Nico Krell, and music directed by guest artist Gia Gan. Performances are on December 8 and 9 at 8:00pm and December 10 at 2:00pm in the Wallace Theater at the Lewis Arts complex on the Princeton campus. The show is free and open to the public; advance tickets are encouraged through University Ticketing.

Middlesex County's Plays-in-the-Park presents "Any Dream Will Do" – An Evening of Andrew Lloyd Webber on Saturday, December 9th and Sunday, December 10th at the intimate, indoor stage at Plays-in-the-Park in Edison. This is a musical revue and tribute to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Holiday Fairy Tale "Magic Flowers" Makes Its Annual Somers Point Return for performances on Saturdays and Sundays December 9-10 and December 16-17.  "Magic Flowers," is an award-winning play that has been produced nationwide and, more recently, become a local annual holiday classic. Short and sweet, "Magic Flowers" is a 30-minute one-act by award-winning playwright Bill Sterritt. This fairy tale quickly became an annual tradition for audiences in both Atlantic and Cape May counties.

The MAC Players to Hold Auditions for "Jesus Christ Superstar" on Monday, December 11, from 5:00pm-10:00pm. The 1970 Broadway rock opera tells the story of the last week of Jesus' life through modern rock music and contemporary slang, with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

COMEDY

Tuesday - Comedian Elon Gold to Perform at Debonair Music Hall on Tuesday, December 5 at Debonair Music Hall with sets at 7:00pm & 9:15pm. Elon is a comedian and actor who has starred in FOX's Stacked and NBC's In-Laws. His one hour stand up special on Netflix, Elon Gold: Chosen & Taken received wide acclaim from audiences and peers alike. It is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. He has made ten appearances on The Tonight Show and had a recurring role on the FOX hit show, Bones.

Wednesday - NJPAC presents This is Important [Live] on Wednesday, December 6 at 8:00pm. Adam Devine, Anders Holm, Blake Anderson, and Kyle Newacheck (co-creators and stars of Workaholics) dive deep into serious discussions about some of the most important topics facing our society today such as grown men fighting children, diarrhea, boners, naked grandmas, and so much more.

Friday - Prudential Center presents comedian Bert Kreischer on Friday, December 8. Showtime is 7:00pm.

DANCE

"Jersey City Nutcracker" Returns to the Nimbus Arts Center with 15 public performances of the acclaimed production from December 8-23, including with a series of schooltime matinees for local school audiences. Nimbus' adaptation of the classic holiday story offers a thrilling, jazzy interpretation of Tchaikovsky's beloved music with a Jersey City twist. Now in its 13th year, Jersey City Nutcracker delights audiences young and old with a quirky and lovable story of two Jersey City kids and their city adventure, filled with magic, battles, stories of friendship, and exquisite dance.

Sunday - New Jersey Ballet to Present Sensory-Friendly performance of "The Nutcracker" in Rahway on Sunday, December 10 at the Union County Performing Arts Center. The Nutcracker is a beloved annual tradition enchants youngsters and grown-ups alike with splendid dancers and a touch of holiday magic, set to Tchaikovsky's iconic score. Showtime is 2:00pm.

FILM

Tuesday - Montclair Film presents a special screening of "Under Pressure: The U.S. Women's World Cup Team" - Episode 1 on Tuesday, December 5 at The Clairidge. The all-access sports series will allow audiences to intimately follow the U.S. Women’s National Team’s players and coaches and reveal an inside look at the most decorated team in soccer history. The screening takes place at 7:00pm and will be followed by a Q&A with Director Rebecca Gitlitz.
