FEATURED EVENTS

14th Annual Axelrod Jewish International Film Festival to Take Place August 4-14. (DEAL, NJ) -- Live cinema is back! The 14th Annual Axelrod Jewish International Film Festival (AJIFF) runs from August 4-14, 2024 at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal. Two films will be screened at Bell Theater at Bell Works in Holmdel as well. The nonprofit festival features 10 award-winning Israeli and Jewish international films. Film series passes are available for $68 through July 15 ($78 after). Individual film tickets are $12.

Friday, August 16 - Avenel Performing Arts Center presents "The Soapranos". (AVENEL, NJ) -- Avenel Performing Arts Center presents The Soapranos from August 16-18, 2024. Tony's retiring and Paulie Peanuts is throwing him a surprise party in this hilarious, interactive parody of the hit TV series.

Friday, August 16 - New Jersey Symphony Brings 'The Godfather' To Life. This August, the drama of the Corleone family and the New York mafia comes to New Jersey in a brand-new way. New Jersey Symphony will present "The Godfather Live" at two venues next month as part of their "at the movies" series – first at New Jersey Performing Arts Center (1 Center St., Newark) on Friday, Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and then at The Count Basie Center for the Arts (99 Monmouth St., Red Bank) on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. The event is sure to bring fun for fans of the film franchise both young and old.

Friday, August 16 - State Theatre New Jersey presents OUR HOUSE: The Music of The Music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents OUR HOUSE: The Music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 8:00pm. OUR HOUSE has assembled an extraordinary ensemble of FAMILY & FRIENDS to perform the CSNY repertoire. Tickets range from $29-$59.

Saturday, August 17 - Saxophonist Mindi Abair Blends Her Jazz with a Taste of Wine. Like a fine Cabernet Sauvignon, Mindi Adair's music is deep, layered, nuanced, earthy, and can be appreciated by both demanding critics and casual listeners. Comparing Adair's music to fine wine is no coincidence; wine has become a significant part of her life and livelihood. The Grammy-nominated saxophonist and singer will blend her jazz stylings with a love of wine on August 17, 2024 at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway, NJ.

Saturday, August 17 - Talking with Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers: A Lovin' Farewell. The term the blue-eyed soul was coined by Philadelphia radio DJ Georgie Woods in 1964 to describe The Righteous Brothers. While in the recording studio for the first time in 1963, the duo of baritone Bill Medley and the late tenor Bobby Hatfield took the name bestowed upon them at John's Black Derby nightclub in Santa Ana, CA, by black Marines stationed at the nearby El Toro base.

Saturday, August 17 - Lizzie Rose Music Room presents Professor Louie & The Crowmatix with the Woodstock Horns. (TUCKERTON, NJ) -- Professor Louie & The Crowmatix with the Woodstock Horns return to the Lizzie Rose Music Room on Saturday, August 17, 2024 to celebrate music from The Band & Bob Dylan. Aaron "Professor Louie" got his nickname from Rick Danko due to his work and friendship with The Band. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 7:30pm.

Tuesday, August 20 - Count Basie Center for the Arts presents Gin Blossoms, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Vertical Horizon. (RED BANK, NJ) -- Count Basie Center for the Arts presents Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket with special guest Vertical Horizon on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 7:30pm. This is a trio of great bands who emerged in the 90s with hits that are still played on the radio each day.

Tuesday, August 20 - The Vogel presents Sons of Cream. (RED BANK, NJ) -- The Vogel presents Sons of Cream on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 7:30pm. The band features Kofi Baker (son of Ginger Baker) and Malcolm Bruce (son of Jack Bruce) and Rob Johnson. Kofi and Malcolm grew up surrounded by music from an early age. Cream's music has become an integral part of their careers. And now joined by Rob they continue to play the music of their fathers and are making it their own. It's in the DNA...

Tuesday, August 13 - Middletown Arts Center presents a Free Outdoor Concert by The Weeklings on August 13th. (MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- The Middletown Arts Center hosts the Middletown Summer Concert Series featuring The Weeklings, America's most unique tribute to the music and inspiration of The Beatles. The free, outdoor concert will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 7:00pm.

Friday, August 16 - Chris Pinnella + 10-Piece Orchestra set Encore Performance in Asbury Park on August 16th. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Join Chris Pinnella (former lead singer with Trans-Siberian Orchestra) along with his killer 10-Piece Orchestra as they bring you reimagined interpretations from some of the most prolific bands and songwriters of the last century. Pinnella and company have added an encore performance on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Tim McLoone's Supper Club in Asbury Park. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Friday, August 16 - Nebraska Folk-Americana Trio, The Wildwoods, to Perform in NYC. If music is a salve, then The Wildwoods could heal the world. The folk-Americana trio from Lincoln, Nebraska takes to guitar, violin, upright bass, and microphones with the simple purity of peaceful forests that soothe the soul. Whether performing an original song or putting their uncluttered stamp on timeless tunes, The Wildwoods exude melodic warmth.

Saturday, August 17 - Newton Theatre presents The Travelin' McCourys. (NEWTON, NJ) -- The Newton Theatre presents The Travelin' McCourys on Saturday, August 17, 2024. They are a bluegrass quintet led by brothers Ronnie and Rob, sons of the legendary bluegrass musician Del. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 8:00pm.

Saturday, August 17 - Barclays Center presents Thirty Seconds to Mars. (BROOKLYN, NY) -- Thirty Seconds to Mars comes to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The band is touring in support of their latest album, It's The End Of The World But It's A Beautiful Day. Showtime is 6:30pm.

Saturday, August 17 - Albert Music Hall to Celebrate 50th Anniversary on August 17th. (WARETOWN, NJ) -- This year, Albert Music Hall is proudly celebrating its 50th Anniversary! The very first "Sounds of the Jersey Pines" show was held in November of 1974, and the weekly gathering of local musicians and music enthusiasts has continued ever since. Every Saturday night, visitors come to the Hall to enjoy a mix of Bluegrass, Country, Folk, Old Timey, Americana and Pinelands music, or to jam in Pickin' Shed.

Sunday, August 18 - Ivy Queen to Headline Newark's Latin Festival. (NEWARK, NJ) -- Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Deputy Mayor for Community Engagement Jacqueline Quiles-Mercado, and the Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery (OVPTR) will host the Annual Latin Festival on Sunday, August 18, 2024 from noon to 10:00pm, on Bloomfield Avenue between Lake Street and Clifton Avenue, in Newark's North Ward.

Scott Ehrenpreis Shares His Inspiring Mental Health Journey in solo show, "Clowns Like Me". (NEW YORK, NY) -- Mental illness is no laughing matter, but in the new solo show Clowns Like Me, audience members are encouraged to laugh, cry and enjoy the ride into the unknown. Clowns Like Me will have its New York Off-Broadway Premiere at the DR2 Theatre this summer. The witty, timely, and inspiring story is based on Sarasota actor and storyteller Scott Ehrenpreis’ true life struggles with mental illness and its stigmas. The play was written by Jason Cannon, who also directs. Previews begin on June 21, for a limited engagement through August 18, 2024.

Summer Heats Up at Cape May Stage with the New Jersey Professional Premiere of "Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B". (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- Cape May Stage presents the New Jersey professional premiere of Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B, a fast-paced, comedic, and modern reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous sleuth and sidekick. Written by award-winning playwright Kate Hamill, this lively production is set to open on July 17th and runs through August 25, 2024, with shows Tuesday through Sunday nights at 8:00pm.

Music Mountain Theatre presents "The King and I". (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) -- Music Mountain Theatre (MMT) presents a four-weekend run of The King and I from July 26 – August 18, 2024. This is the classic musical from the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. It is the tenth mainstage show of MMT's 2024 season.

East Lynne Theater Company presents "Dial M for Murder". (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- East Lynne Theater Company in Cape May will produce an updated version of "Dial M for Murder" by Jeffrey Hatcher for five weeks this summer. Performances take place Wednesdays through Saturdays from July 31 to August 31, 2024 at 7:00pm.

CAT presents tales from Kate Chopin, Will Rogers, O. Henry, and Harlem. (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- A husband questions the ancestry of his wife, ghostly happenings, Will Rogers' timeless wit, O. Henry's famous twists at the end, and Harlem in the 1920’s. These are some of the upcoming tales to be told by Classic American Tales' (CAT) "Tales at the Dormer House."

Cape May Stage presents "Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson - Apt. 2B". (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- Cape May Stage is presenting Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson - Apt. 2B from July 17 to August 25, 2024. This fast-paced, comedic, and modern reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous sleuth and sidekick explores the dynamic partnership of a new Holmes and Watson as they navigate a series of exhilarating adventures.

The Theater Project presents "The Interpreter" by Joseph Vitale. (SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Theater Project, a leading incubator for rising talent and a showcase for New Jersey artists, will present award-winning playwright Joseph Vitale's thought-provoking play, The Interpreter, August 15-25, 2024 at the Oakes Center.

Scholars to Lead Audience Discussions After Performances of "The Interpreter" - A Nuremberg Trial Drama. (SUMMIT, NJ) -- ­In response to the rise of antisemitism in the United States, scholars from New Jersey universities will lead audience discussions with high-school students and adults following six performances of The Interpreter, Joseph Vitale's drama about a Nazi leader and his Jewish interpreter during the Nuremberg trials, which runs August 15–25, 2024 at the Oakes Center Theater in Summit. The Theater Project is presenting the play.

First Avenue Playhouse presents "True West" by Sam Shepard. (ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ) -- First Avenue Playhouse presents True West by Sam Shepard across three weekends (August 17-18, August 23-25, and August 30-31). Brothers Austin and Lee seem like opposites. Austin is a hardworking scriptwriter and Lee is a homeless Thief. When a Hollywood producer picks Lee's idea for a 'true-to-life' western over Austin's script, the brothers turn on each other. A writing session gets ugly in this dark comedy.

COMEDY

Monday, August 19 - Debonair Music Hall presents Comedian Elon Gold. (TEANECK, NJ) -- Elon Gold returns to Teaneck for two sets of stand-up comedy on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Debonair Music Hall. Elon Gold is a comedian and actor who has starred in FOX's Stacked and NBC's In-Laws. Sets take place at 7:00pm and 9:30pm. Comedians Eli Lebowicz and Ami Kozak are scheduled to open.

DANCE

Roxey Ballet Hosts 3rd Annual River Dance Festival August 16-18, 2024. (NEW HOPE, PA) -- Roxey Ballet will host the third annual River Dance Festival August 16-18, 2024 at Mill Ballet in New Hope, PA. Dancers, choreographers, and creators will get together in this three-day event featuring diverse talent from across the nation.

FILM

Celebrate Cinematic Camp at The ShowRoom's "Summer Camp" Film Series!. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- ATTENTION CAMPERS! The ShowRoom Cinema has announced its "Summer Camp" film series, a celebration of some of the campiest and kitchiest films of all time. Join them for three nights of over-the-top performances, outrageous plots, and unforgettable moments. The lineup includes screenings of Supergirl, Death Becomes Her, and Can't Stop the Music.

9th Annual Indie Street Film Festival Preview. (RED BANK, NJ) -- The ninth annual Indie Street Film Festival (ISFF), presented by Basie Center Cinemas, takes place August 19-25, 2024. ISFF 2024 will kick off at the Vogel theater with the New Jersey Premiere of the acclaimed documentary Mediha, directed by ISFF alum filmmaker Hasan Oswald (Higher Love). Both Oswald and subject Mediha Alhamad will be in attendance.

Saturday, August 17 - Macheis Wind to have Free Family Concert at Bex Cafe on August 17th. (CALIFON, NJ) -- Join award-winning musician, Macheis Wind, the "Children's Musical Hero" for a Fun Family Concert, in partnership with Chef Becky Geisel, on the lawn at Bex Cafe. Gather on Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2024 at 1:00pm for a family concert at Bex, a free community building event.

Saturday, August 17 - Explore NJ Shipwreck History at the Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch. (SURF CITY, NJ) -- Many a seaworthy vessel met its end in the waters off the New Jersey coast. Join one of the Garden State's most experienced historical divers for compelling tales from nearly 300 years of local maritime history during "New Jersey Shipwrecks: Off the Jersey Shore with Dan Lieb" at the Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The event begins at 2:00pm.
