Elizabeth's Portuguese Day Parade 2023 takes place this weekend

(ELIZABETH, NJ) -- The Portugal Day Parade in Elizabeth is recognized as the one of oldest running Portuguese parades in the state of New Jersey. Since 1987, Portugal Day in Elizabeth has become a cherished annual tradition, and this year they already have record setting participation confirmed. This year’s event is no exception to the growing numbers of attendees bringing together thousands of families and friends of all backgrounds, including but not limited to Portuguese organizations, dance groups, social clubs and local businesses to commemorate the Portuguese traditions.

This year, festivities include on Friday, June 2nd the flag raising at the Elizabeth City Hall beginning at 6:00pm. On Saturday, June 3rd the traditionally held outdoor festival will showcase food, bands and performances at the Portuguese Instructive Social Club. On Sunday, June 4th the Portuguese Community brings excitement to the streets of Elizabeth Avenue & Broad Street, as they come alive with color, and marching bands, folklore dancing groups, and decorated floats marching down Elizabeth Avenue.

This event is definitely one of Elizabeth’s largest cultural celebrations, sure not to miss. When traveling into the NYNJ Metro area, people from all over are welcome to join and embrace the city's diversity, located just minutes from NYC, it’s a must-visit attraction to launch your summer activities .” said Jennifer Costa, President & CEO of the Elizabeth Tourism Office (EDMO).
