Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at releases by furiousBall, Dummy, Val Emmich, Yawn Mower, the dt's, and FRND CRCL.
furiousBall - "Good, No Good". "Good, No Good explores sight both from an internal perspective, and also in hopes of narrowing the divide between what has become such a painfully separated world," says the liner notes of furiousBall's 13th release. It is a deep and meaningful album, but it is also finely crafted indie-alternative-rock for those that just want to hear some good music.
Dummy - "Another 80's" [single]. Somehow the new single from Dummy has an 80's synth-dance-pop-rock vibe, while still not sounding strictly of the era. It is a wonderful song!
Val Emmich - "Starburst". Val Emmich makes albums. It is is an obvious thing to say, but when I say albums I don't just mean a collection of singles, Val makes albums that have an ebb & a flow and an overall vibe. "Starburst" is another master class in creating an album about the human condition wrapped in epic alternative pop rock.
Yawn Mower - "Elevation". Yawn Mower's new single "Elevation" sounds like what might happen if J Mascis fronted The Cure in the late 1980's. I dig it.
the dt's - "Refresh" [single]. "Refresh" is a beautiful, lush, pop song... about the very unhealthy act of checking an ex's social media.
FRND CRCL - "47" [single]. FRND CRCL's new single, "47", is a great example of why pop-punk is still thriving!
That's all for this week.
