Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at releases by Cybrog Amok, Quinn Kennedy, Solo For Dolo, CATHEDRAL CEILINGS, and Four Dollar Piece.
Cybrog Amok - "(Some) Sleep Tonight" [single] - If Jim Morrison were still alive today and the doors went into a Gothic Alternative phase, it might sound like the new single from Cyborg Amok's forthcoming album, "Etiam" (out October 8th).
Quinn Kennedy - "B-Sides" - These are B-Sides? I am glad these four songs are released because they are all wonderful as Quinn Kennedy's music tends to be.
Solo For Dolo - "Horns" [single] - Solo For Dolo's latest single is the type of alternative-hip-hop that I crave. More please!
CATHEDRAL CEILINGS – "Summer Of Misguided Dynamite" - I can spend a lot of words entolling how much I love this album. How they are a great mix of alt-rock, power-pop, & punk rock. How, while this is a debut album, this comes from musicians with a pedigree in the NJ scene. But why should I waste anymore words, when you reading this is preventing you from listening to them. Go! Now! Listen! Enjoy!
Four Dollar Piece - "Going Grey" - Four Dollar Piece's new EP continues the duo's mantra of "big riff energy", but it is so much more than that. Their songs are endlessly catchy, while not having the typical major chord pop choruses. Their songs have an epicness to them, compacted into 3 & 4 minute tunes that appear to be about anxieties & insecurities.
That's all for this week.
