Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online radio station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at releases by Allison Strong, The Gladiators of 2037, Vakili Band, Gin War, Boogie Down Apocalypse, and The Random Hubiak.
Allison Strong - "Brontë". It should come as no surprise to anyone who listens to Allison Strong's new EP, "Bronte", that in addition to being a talented musician, she has a theater and film background. The six songs on this EP have the musical equivalent of a cinematic experience. I felt these songs while listening to them, and the stories that unfold in each song. A very moving, emotionally filling EP.

The Gladiators of 2037 - "House of Leaves". With a name like The Gladiators of 2037 you can excuse me for thinking this was going to be a fun album... and it is not, not a fun album, musically, with catchy pop punk/emo rock. But if you take the time to listen to the lyrics (or read them on their Bandcamp page), you will notice this is a much more serious album, which kind of makes it more fulfilling.
Vakili Band - "Honey". Vakili Band new single, "Honey", really showcases how masterful they are at psychedelic blues rock. Can't wait to hear the rest of their album when it comes out on September 8th.
Gin War - "Tapped Out". "Tapped Out", the new single from Gin War, is indie-alt-rock infused with Americana. They have a neat animated video to go along with it.
Boogie Down Apocalypse - "MUTUAL ASSURED DESTRUCTION". With a name like Boogie Down Apocalypse and a song titled, "MUTUAL ASSURED DESTRUCTION", you could expect Industrial Rock, but you would be wrong. This is an earworm of a new wave/post-punk rock song.
The Random Hubiak - "The Changing of the Hands". The latest single from The Random Hubiak, "The Changing of the Hands", is a peppy singer-songwriter tune. The addition of horns make this song sound particularly festive and fun.
That's all for this week.
