Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online radio station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at releases by Jag One, Hakken-Kraks, Blue Daze August, Fuzzy Navel, and The Antoine Poncelet Band.
Jag One - "Location is Everything". At 76 minutes, Jag One's sophomore album, "Location is Everything", is epic. According to the liner notes, the album "is a chronology of my (Chris) life over the past 5 or 6 years, never knowing truly where I fit in wherever life takes me." Ironically, or maybe not so ironically, the album is all over the place, but fits together to make a complete album.
Hakken-Kraks - "Rosebud". Hakken-Kraks's EP, "Rosebud", features the title track, & first single from their upcoming album, "All Filler... No Meat", along with 2 other songs that did not make the final cut of the album. All 3 songs are great mid-tempo indie-rock, that has me excited to hear the rest of their forthcoming album.
Blue Daze August - "LP". Blue Daze August's debut, "LP, is 10 catchy pop-punk/Garage-Surf rock & roll songs, and is an absolute joy to listen to!
Fuzzy Navel - "King of the Suburbs". Like the drink they are named after, Fuzzy Navel's "King of the Suburbs" is 9 sweet, fun, rock songs. Always rock responsibly... by sharing with other designated listeners (they will thank you later).
The Antoine Poncelet Band - "April". The Antoine Poncelet Band's new single, "April", blends alternative, classic and goth rock, into a catchy, but moody song. The B-Side is an interesting cover of Roxy Music's, "Virginia Plain".
That's all for this week.
