Here is the
2024 New Jersey International Film Festival Video Q+A with Stakes is High Director Jean-Pierre Caner and Festival Director Al Nigrin:

Stakes is High screens at the 2024 New Jersey International Film Festival on Sunday, June 9, 2024 – Online for 24 Hours on this day and In-Person at 7PM in Voorhees Hall #105/Rutgers University, 71 Hamilton Street, New Brunswick, NJ.  Stakes is High Director Jean-Pierre Caner will be on hand to do a Q+A after the In-Person screening!  For more info and tickets go here.

Stakes is High – Jean-Pierre Caner (Los Angeles, California) Much like Taxi Driver was a reflection of post-Vietnam America, Stakes is High captures America right now. Will Goldin is the everyman of this moment, living off the fumes of a dream, turning to the gig economy with hopes of a better future only to find a rat race to the bottom – a story that has only become more and more relevant. Accordingly, Stakes is High is a ride. One scene leading to the next, the story building as Will tries to get ahead while risking it all. 2023; 90 min.

EVENT PREVIEWS

A Girl Can Touch the Sky, by Ravinol Chambers, is an immersive documentary that takes the audience deep into the culture and sometimes obtrusive gender roles across India. Chambers who was once a monk in the city of Vrindavan, India helps to shine a lot on the situations that are most pressing to many girls in the villages of India. As he and a crew travel down the west coast of India, they hope to raise awareness about the difficulties girls in the area have in accessing education. The documentary provides a manifold of interviews that discuss the education topic for girls from different points of view. Chambers shows a plethora of conflicting opinions that help the viewer become entrenched in the complex culture of India. We see disappointed fathers, hopeful girls, and educators speak on the matter at hand.
