UCPAC Hosts Special Preview of NJTV's "I Can't... I Have Rehearsal"

(RAHWAY, NJ) -- For a select few, the high school musical is sacred. Every year those students come together for the Tonys of New Jersey high school musical theatre. But first, they have to get their shows off the ground.  That's the premise behind NJTV's I Can’t… I Have Rehearsal, which features the talented casts, crews and creative teams of six New Jersey high school musical productions as they rehearse, perform, and compete for Paper Mill Playhouse’s Rising Star Awards.

On Tuesday, May 16th, NJTV presents a special screening of I Can’t… I Have Rehearsal at Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) in Rahway.  Doors open at 6:00pm and the screening begins at 7:00pm.  Admission is free to be among the first to see this new show, which debuts on NJTV on May 17th at 8:00pm.  Following the screening, there will be a talk-back discussion. T-shirts and concessions will be available for purchase. T-shirts are $15 and proceeds benefit Public Media of NJ.

I Can’t… I Have Rehearsal is directed by Maddie Orton of NJTV and features Tony-winner and TV star Laura Benanti, Tony-nominee Rob McClure, and The Wiz Live!’s Shanice Williams.  Students from Franklin High School, Rahway High School, Somerville High School, Summit High School, Union High School, and Vineland High School provide the casts, crews and creative teams for the six New Jersey high school musical productions in the competition.

In addition to Orton, the people behind the show include the director of photography: Frank Guastella; art director: Vinny Caravano, NJTV; executive producer: Phil Alongi, NJTV; and executive-in-charge: John Servidio, NJTV.

Funding for I Can’t… I Have Rehearsal was made possible by The Jean Dubinsky Appleton Estate.

Gemstones is a structured, longform improvisation series that mixes comedy and drama, and that can be viewed in its entirety or singly. ON-GOING EVENTS

(MADISON, NJ) -- Long before Bridgerton sparked desires and ignited our screens, a young, new writer set the hearts of England ablaze with the deep longing of her compelling characters. Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility tells the captivating tale of the Dashwood sisters as they attempt to navigate financial strife, would-be suitors, and the rigid edicts of English society following the death of their father. Jessica Swale’s elegant stage adaptation of this beloved classic overflows with humor and style. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will present Sense and Sensibility at their F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre on the campus of Drew University from September 4-22, 2024.
