ROCK ON! This Week's Sound Bites...10/6/16

By Danny Coleman

originally published: 10/06/2016
"Well, about two years ago on the music site, "BandMix.com," says front man/vocalist Matthew Makin as he explained the formation of New Brunswick based Experiment 34. "I found Kevin and it turns out that he lived like ten minutes away from me. We started meeting at open mics, next thing you know we had written 20 or 30 songs and then we met Jack and Jake through "Facebook" and it all fell into place."

With a name which they claim, "Kind of rolls off the tongue" and a description of themselves on that very same social media as, "An eclectic, well-rooted, independent, hard rock band with a strong psychedelic groove and a flair for rap," these fellas are all that and more; i.e. the Red Hot Chili Peppers. When asked about how they incorporate all of that into their songwriting, guitarist Kevin Nenichka says, "Yeah, John can really bring a funky bass line or maybe it's Matt bringing a certain vocal line; I don't know it can come from many places but we all feed off of each other. Jake is like the glue that holds us together and we just let the music evolve."

"John," is bassist Johnny Zabe and "The glue" is drummer Jack La Monica, both from Hamilton, NJ and both vital members of the band that Nenichka and Makin call, "Genre Bending" and one that, "Challenges the boundaries of the brain." According to Matt and Kevin, the foursome has been as smooth as room temperature butter and on a roll since they released their EP in March of this year. "Finding those two guys really gives us a solid rhythm section," stated Nenichka. "We just released our three song EP, "Charismanic" back on March 17, 2016 and we loved every minute of recording it. We did it at Lakehouse Studios in Asbury Park and it was a great experience. Right now is a very special time for the band," adds Makin. "We've been playing all over the tri-state area. We've been in Philly, New York City, Albany and we've opened for Clutch, and Anthrax and we did the "Rock Carnival" on September 30 with Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper, Halestorm and Clutch again; things are going great for us."

Considering the band has "No management," as one can see, they seem to have no problem getting gigs; high profile gigs. Their next larger gig is a 9 p.m.showcase on October 22 at Roxy & Dukes Roadhouse in Dunellen, NJ and they're just as pumped for this one as all the others. "We are very much looking forward to this one," stated both men collectively. "We're part of the "Makin' Waves Rock Circus," along with Black CloudWill Wood & The Tapeworms and The Production and we are ready to go."

Beyond Roxy & Dukes, the band has even bigger plans to finish out 2016 and hit the ground running in 2017"We are going to possibly release another from our EP this month and then turn that EP into an LP. We want to put out "Charasmanic 2.0" so to speak by re-releasing those three songs and three new ones, hopefully early in 2017 and then tour next summer. We consider ourselves, as we said before, we consider ourselves very different. Some people call us psycho punk, call us hip-hop and metal and rock; it's those differences that actually create similarities but at the same time these different tastes and styles that we all have bring us together as a band and let us gel as a unit."

Armed with talent and determination, Experiment 34 will keep bringing their brand of rock to their ever growing fan base and continue to push forward; blazing a path into uncharted and undefinable waters. To discover more about Experiment 34; please go to their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/experiment34/ where you'll find all of the links to their social media sites.

Some FYI, Experiment 34 are scheduled to appear live on air this Sunday 10/9 on Rock On Radio at 10 p.m. EST on www.40footholestudio.com

That's it for this week! Please continue to support live and original music and until next week....ROCK ON!
