ROCK ON! This Week's Sound Bites...3/3/16

The local and not so local music scenes are starting to heat up as we speed towards the change of seasons and into Spring. Summer concert announcements, tribute bands, local cover and original acts are all gearing up for our entertainment and listening pleasure.

Major touring acts Zac Brown Band, Dave Matthews Band, Sting & Peter Gabriel, Steely Dan, Daryl Hall & JohnOates, Journey & The Doobie Brothers with "Special guest" Dave Mason, Slipknot, Heart with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts & Cheap Trick will all invade the BB & T Pavilion (formerly the Susquehanna Bank Center) in Camden, NJ and should be enough to whet any classic music lovers appetite. Tickets are currently on sale for all of these shows and can be found at www.bbt.pavilioncamden.com.

Tribute bands are also all the rage these days and several tribute shows of note will be forthcoming. First up is the return of "The Machine" on March 26 at the Bergen PAC in Englewood, NJ as they offer up the closest thing to Pink Floyd other than Floyd themselves. Playing to sold out or near sellout crowds; the band offers a great light show and the total Pink Floyd experience. Tickets range from $29 to $79 and can be obtained at www.bergenpac.org.

The WFIL Band, performing music from 1966 - 1974 and hailing from Hamilton, NJ will be performing a recreated radio broadcast from the hey-days of "Philly 56 WFIL" radio complete with facts, commercials, jingles, blasts from the past and more on April 22 at the Ivy Tavern in Hamilton. They can be found on youtube at www.youtube.com/wfilband.

Staying in Hamilton, the insanely talented Tom Reock will bring his Reock & Roll Revue to Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theater once again on July 16 and 17. Reock (known for his incredible reproductions of classic rock albums) will be bringing Jackson Browne's "Running On Empty"to life in yet another quality production filled with facts and educational blurbs about Browne, the music and the creation of the album. A definite can't miss on anyone's must see list of summer shows. Tickets are available at www.kelseyatmccc.org.

Some great shows this weekend include, an early 7:30 p.m. start on Friday for Dirty Red "Unplugged" at the Take 5 Gourmet Cafe located in the Foxmoor Shopping Center in Robbinsville. Miss Scarlet Fox and her boys Jeff and Joe bring some classics and new age material straight at you; unplugged.

The Ernie White Band will be rockin' the Ivy Tavern later on that same night with their usual brand of classic rock covers and White originals. Ernie, Tom, Marty and Frankie will rattle "The great wall of alcohol" to its core. Start time is 10 p.m.

Saturday afternoon jazz can be found with the David Dzubinski Group at the Dog & Bull Brew Pub in Croydon, PA. Dzubinski is one of the most talented piano players in the tri-state area and a great stage persona to boot and will be the featured act at the 11 a.m. jazz brunch. Then the James Stewart Sax Quartet is at the Candlelight Lounge located on Passaic Street in Trenton. Top notch jazz acts call the Candlelight their home and Stewart is no different. Catch this 3 p.m. show then head out later in the evening to Amarones for dinner and the Meg Hanson Band featuring the incomparable Billy Hill on vocals.

Also on Saturday, Honey Spot Blvd. will be topping off a great weekend at The Ivy Tavern with a show and a birthday bash for one of my favorite people; their bassist Terry Crawford. There will be beavers, bubbles, shot glasses and plenty of libations to celebrate the man, the myth and the legend. Always a great time regardless; Honey Spot Blvd brings their "A" game to every performance; start time is 10 p.m.

There's also Deep Release at Pete's Steak House on Whitehorse - Mercerville Road in Hamilton. Still rockin' strong for over 20 plus years; these guys are always a lot of fun as they bring you their brand of classic rock covers and the occasional original tune thrown in. the fun kicks off at 10 p.m.

Sunday, the legend known as Dick Gratton returns to the aforementioned Dog & Bull Brew Pub for two sets. The first as part of the Sunday jazz brunch at 11 a.m. and then he'll be providing the dining soundtrack beginning at 3 p.m.

That's it for this week! Please continue to support live and original music and until next week....ROCK ON!
