Newton Theatre Presents Rik Emmett Of Triumph

originally published: 06/25/2018

Newton Theatre Presents Rik Emmett Of Triumph(NEWTON, NJ) -- Rik Emmett gained international recognition as the lead singer/songwriter/guitarist with Triumph from 1975 to 1988. Five gold & platinum decades in the music biz provided entry into the Canadian Rock Hall of Fame, the Music Industry Hall of Fame and the Junos Hall of Fame, with a few ˜Best Guitarist” awards garnered along the way.

The adjectives ‘prolific’ and ‘eclectic’ frequently pop up in Rik’s profiles. Following over a dozen platinum albums from his Triumph years, he produced 19 more as an indie, ranging from rock to blues to jazz to folk to classical.  Author of a GUITAR PLAYER magazine column for over a dozen years, the resulting compilation instruction book, “For The Love of Guitar”, recently landed at #4 in Shawn Persinger’s review of “The 50 Greatest Guitar Books”.  As a music educator, Mr. E. remains humbly proud of his long-standing inclusion on the heavily-respected Humber College faculty, where he’s taught Songwriting, Music Business and Directed Studies;  and he’s also been Artistic Director of the Songstudio Songwriting Workshop every summer for the past 12 years.

A guitar magazine once wrote that Rik Emmett was “… his own worst enemy … one of the only guitarists out there who may be too talented for his own damn good”. In a digital sound bite world, this offers insight on a music biz lifer, recognizing a unique artist, still going strong.   For 47 years, as his own worst enemy, Rik makes choices as a loyal friend to his gifts:  never a slave to fashion.  Rik offers his best to every audience, of every stripe, every night that he performs, holding true to the magic power of the music.

RIK EMMETT AND DAVE DUNLOP perform Saturday, November 10 at 8 PMat The Newton Theatre, 234 Spring Street in Newton, NJ.  Tickets start at $34 and are available for purchase at The Newton Theatre box office, online at www.TheNewtonTheatre.com, or by calling 973-940-NEWT.

EVENT PREVIEWS

Two

Two riveting shorts The Hollowing and Brooklyn screen at the New Jersey Film Festival on February 1!

How a filmmaker utilizes certain filmmaking techniques holds the power to change the film in immeasurable ways. Achieving the best look and flow of the film requires evaluating things such as lighting, color, and composition and determining how they can be applied. The outcome of these evaluations is a carefully articulated and well-done film that crafts an interesting narrative told not just through storytelling but through every part of the film. Two examples of this are The Hollowing, by Steve Weinzierl, and Brooklyn, by Timur Guseynov, both films that tell their stories well through various cinematography and filmmaking language techniques such as color, lighting, and frame composition.
