Family AG Days Set for Van Riper Hopper House

(WAYNE, NJ) -- The County of Passaic in conjunction with Hazelman Farms presents Family Ag Days during the summer months at the Van Riper-Hopper House, 533 Berdan Avenue in Wayne, New Jersey. All Family Ag Days will be on Sundays from 9:00am – 1:00pm on the following dates: June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8, August 22, September 12, September 26.

Family Ag Days are designed to connect families with agriculture in an engaging manner through activities, music and programs. Additionally, there will be produce for sale and a petting zoo.

“We at Hazelman Farms are so proud to partner with the County of Passaic to engage the public on the importance of agriculture and a healthy lifestyle,” said Rocky Hazelman of Hazelman Farms. “Agriculture can be fun, and Family AG Days is a great way to spend time with those you care about.”

The Van Riper-Hopper House (533 Berdan Avenue, Wayne) is a one and a half story structure built of native fieldstone and accented with red sandstone. The home was constructed in 1786 for Uriah Van Riper and his wife Maria Berdan. Van Riper and Berdan were neighbors and both families fashioned the home for the newlyweds. The Van Riper-Hopper House also shares the land with the Meade-Van Duyne House, an early Dutch Colonial structure with a cornerstone labeled "1706.”

In a partnership with the Township of Wayne, the County of Passaic will oversee both homes and implement culture and historic preservation programs. Family Ag Days are free to the public. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks must be worn on-site.
