The Van Riper-Hopper House (533 Berdan Avenue, Wayne) is a one and a half story structure built of native fieldstone and accented with red sandstone. The home was constructed in 1786 for Uriah Van Riper and his wife Maria Berdan. Van Riper and Berdan were neighbors and both families fashioned the home for the newlyweds. The Van Riper-Hopper House also shares the land with the Meade-Van Duyne House, an early Dutch Colonial structure with a cornerstone labeled "1706.”
In a partnership with the Township of Wayne, the County of Passaic will oversee both homes and implement culture and historic preservation programs. Family Ag Days are free to the public. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks must be worn on-site.
