The Friends of the Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library Present $7100 Check to Library

originally published: 12/27/2021

(SEWELL, NJ) -- The Friends of the Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library presented a check for $7100 to Library Director Sheila Mikkelson on December 23, 2021, fulfilling their mission of supporting the library. Director Mikkelson’s response: “The library is very fortunate to have such a thriving Friends’ group. We are very thankful for their generous donation.”

The Friends’ group is a nonprofit that was established in 2005. The fundraising efforts of the Friends are supported by residents who like to read and donate their used books to the Friends’ Bookstore. These donated books are then purchased by library visitors at bargain prices.

In addition to maintaining the bookstore, the Friends also hold an annual used costume jewelry sale. Library visitors donate jewelry and shoppers then can make purchases on sale days. The next jewelry sale is in the Spring.

The Friends’ bookstore sales and other fundraisers generate a robust annual income which allows the Friends to support special library projects during the year and make a large cash donation at the end of the year. The Friends of the Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library salute the donors and shoppers who support the Friends’ ongoing projects. The funds generated flow into the library and enrich the library experience for visitors.
