(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Nimbus Dance's beloved Jersey City Nutcracker is back, and high on the list of must-see Jersey City holiday experiences! Presented for the first time ever at the new Nimbus Arts Center, Nimbus Dance will offer 12 performances of the quirky and lovable adaptation of Tchaikovsky's timeless classic, which takes place in Jersey City and weaves together themes of magic, adventure, family, and friendship. Performances take place December 10-23.
The highly acclaimed Nimbus Dance performs against a dazzling backdrop of full-scale sets and fantastical projections of illustrated scenes. Audiences are transported across the city - through parks, lively avenues, deserted alleyways, the sewers (for an epic battle scene!) and back to the City Hall, with surprises, cheer, and a message of hope and resilience along the way.
Set to Tchaikovsky's renowned orchestral score, Jersey City Nutcracker tells the story of two children's city adventure, following them through fantasy, adversity, and celebration, with lessons about friendship and community along the way. Choreographed and directed by Nimbus Artistic Director Samuel Pott, this adaption of Tchaikovsky's holiday classic is performed by a stand-out cast of professional dancers from Nimbus Dance joined by youth and adults from the community; familiar characters such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Rat King, and Drosselmeyer - all with a Jersey City twist! Set against jaw-dropping animated video projections by Laia Cabrera and Isabelle Duverger, youth and adults alike are touched by this tale of Holiday spirit. Plus: surprise guest-performers make unforgettable cameo appearances, Stay tuned!
Choreographed by Nimbus Artistic Director Samuel Pott, with animated scenic projections by Jersey City-based video artists, Laia Cabrera and Isabelle Duverger, and a delightful libretto co-written by Alysia Souder and Mr. Pott, Jersey City Nutcracker takes audiences on a magical shopping-cart-turned-sleigh-ride with twists and turns your whole family will enjoy!

Jersey City Nutcracker draws together a cast of 16 professional company dancers, 100+ youth from all over Jersey City, and local celebrities to present an unforgettable holiday experience. Debuting in the youth lead roles of Maria and Christopher/Christina are Michael Fuks (Arts High School, Newark), Alyssa Colon (County Prep High School), Nola Walker (Snyder High School), and Elizabeth Volpert (Elysian Charter School).

Performance dates & times are: Friday, December 10 at 7:00pm; Saturday, December 11 at 3:00pm & 7:00pm; Sunday, December 12 at 3:00pm; Friday, December 17 at 7:00pm; Saturday, December 18 at 3:00pm & 7:00pm; Sunday, December 19 at 3:00pm & 7:00pm; Wednesday, December 22 at 7:00pm; and Thursday, December 23 at 3:0pm & 7:00pm.
Tickets range from $25-$40 (group rates available upon request) and are available for purchase online. The Nimbus Arts Center requires Proof of Vaccination or a negative covid test within 72 hours of the performance. Masks are required at all times within the Nimbus Arts Center.
