joe p Releases "Off My Mind"

originally published: 05/12/2021

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Asbury Park’s joe p has released the single “Off My Mind”, which is the follow-up to his first release “Fighting in the Car” as the newest signing to Neon Gold Records (Matt Maeson, Charli XCX, HAIM, The Knocks, et. al). Both songs will be part of his debut EP Crown Vic which will be released on June 25th.

“This is the happiest sad song I have ever written I think," said joe p. "When I started coming up with the line “now you’re off my mind” I loved how just saying that out loud contradicts the very thing it is trying to prove." And just like 'Fighting in the Car', the 'Off My Mind' music video was directed by Anthony Yebra."

“I really wanted to make a music video where I didn’t fake performing the song or lip sync while trying to look as cool as possible," he continued.  "I have done that so many times and I just wasn’t in the mood to do that for this song. Instead, I wanted to have something a bit more cinematic and a story to follow. Anthony Yebra and I sat around until we developed this sci-fi based idea that basically revolved around a man finding some sort of mysterious black orb in his backyard and instead of trying to figure out what it is, he befriends it and takes it in. In the end, the character has to make a decision that ultimately determines his fate as well as the rest of the worlds’. This video was made with no crew, shot, edited and directed entirely by Anthony Yebra and shot over the course of a few weekends. Huge thank you to James for letting us use his house/property/truck/welding shop and Hess for helping with some lighting trickery.”

When the onset of the pandemic and collapse of the live touring industry brought about the dissolution of the band he’d fronted since 8th grade, joe p found himself in isolation with time to step out and experiment on his own for the very first time. He threw himself into a new creative outlet, writing, recording and producing his most honest material to date from the refuge of his basement studio in New Jersey. What he surfaced with months later was a no frills, no pretense, raw and honest expression of self, and so he re-emerged into the world for the first time as his truest self, joe p.

Writing and posting homegrown ideas to TikTok, he watched as they organically started to take off and his following snowballed to over 280k and millions of views in just a few months. Fans mobilized to spread the word and caught the attention of Zane Lowe who dueted a video of Joe debuting a taste of "Fighting in the Car", kicking Joe's ascent into hyperdrive. Having grabbed the attention of labels and gatekeepers alike, Joe signed a deal with Neon Gold Records to release his debut EP this upcoming summer and arrives with the finished version of "Fighting in the Car" was premiered by none other than Zane Lowe himself, stating: “I really like this, reminds me of Nada Surf and Weezer. I called it! sometimes you just need that riff...it just lulls you in!”
