(PHILADELPHIA, PA) -- A cross between Soul Train and TikTok, Dance On Philly is a live on-air dance party for all ages. The six hour dance extravaganza will be hosted by Philadelphia’s own beloved singer, Lauren Hart, with music mixmaster, DJ Cosmo Baker, spinning the tunes on Saturday, November 14 from 6:00pm to midnight.
Dance On Philly will bring together people of all ages in a virtual nightclub, livestreamed from Philly’s premier music venue, The Fillmore, where host, DJs, and dance coaches will lead the action and amp up the energy to keep the dancers going. In the virtual space, participants can dance on an open floor with the general crowd, or reserve a private room in advance and spend the day (and night) dancing with friends, family, school, or co-workers. The evening is divided into hourly segments so dance a thon-ers can participate for one hour or six.
As in traditional dance-a-thons, participants will seek donations and pledges before the event. Proceeds will benefit Musicopia and Dancing Classrooms Philly, which provide music and dance education and enrichment activities to thousands of Philadelphia area schoolchildren each year.
Dance On Philly is produced and presented by Philadelphia-based non-profit, 30Amp Circuit, which presented the virtual music festival Love From Philly in May 2020, raising close to $100,000 to support local musicians. 30Amp Circuit will be joined by Our People Entertainment, its production partner for Love From Philly.
Musicopia’s mission is to provide opportunities for children to experience, learn, perform, and appreciate music. Since its founding 1974, Musicopia has helped more than 345,000 children experience the benefits of first-hand exposure to the arts, and is a recognized leader in rebuilding and revitalizing school music programs. Musicopia reaches thousands of children each year in the Delaware Valley through in-school music education, a string orchestra program, a drumlines program, and its Gift of Music Instrument Donation Program. Musicopia places a priority on reaching students who are underserved and cut off from the region’s rich cultural life. Through its high-quality programs, Musicopia aims to give all children, regardless of circumstances, the opportunity to have their lives transformed by music.
Dancing Classrooms Philly’s mission is to foster self-esteem, social awareness and joy in children by providing the opportunity to learn and perform ballroom dance through school residencies, a Saturday Academy program, and our Allstars. Through our ballroom dance instruction, we help to improve the climate of school communities across the Philadelphia region by building confidence in students, breaking down social barriers, and inspiring respect for all individuals. We envision transformative arts programs in all school communities that nurture creativity, build confidence, and promote a culture of mutual respect and well-being.
