originally published: 05/18/2020

(WAYNE, NJ) --  On Monday, June 1, Aspire Performing Arts Company will host an online Broadway Master Class with Tony Award–nominated actress Kerry Butler! This unique format will allow students from around New Jersey, as well as anywhere in the world, to take advantage of this incredible opportunity.

The one-day Master Class, open to performers age 11-21, will focus on audition technique as students learn the key to a great audition, including developing a character and improving performance skills. All participants will receive one-on-one instruction and direct feedback from Ms. Butler, and the session will finish with a short Q&A. This class is an amazing opportunity to learn from a Broadway professional and receive valuable insight into the audition and performance process.

Kerry Butler nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for Xanadu. She most recently portrayed Barbara in Beetlejuice and Betsy Heron, Mrs. Nobury, and Mrs. George in Mean Girls. Other Broadway credits include Belle in Beauty and the BeastDisaster!Catch Me If You Can, Sherrie in Rock of Ages, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Penny Pingleton in the original cast of Hairspray, Eponine in Les MisérablesBlood Brothers, and The Best Man.

The Broadway Master Class will take place on the ZOOM platform, which Aspire PAC has been using for a number of weekly online classes, including songwriting, acting, and musical theatre, as well as weekly chats, online play readings, and their Virtual Coffeehouse open mic nights.

“I am thrilled to welcome Kerry Butler to our virtual classroom,” says Aspire PAC Artistic Director Lisa Beth Vettoso. “I love providing my students with opportunities to work directly with Broadway professionals. And while we can’t be together in person at this time, this is a new and exciting way to gain access to the best and brightest in the industry. Kerry’s energy is infectious, and I have no doubt that each and every participant will walk away from this class with new tools and techniques, as well as a smile on their face!”
