Wharton Players Present "Elf Jr."

originally published: 12/04/2019

(BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ) -- The newly-formed Wharton Players present Elf Jr. with live accompaniment from December 6-8 at the Performing Arts School (60 Locust Avenue) in Berkeley Heights. Based on the cherished New Line Cinema hit, Elf Jr. features songs by Tony Award-nominees, Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Tony Award-winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.

Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

A complimentary reception of wine, cheese, cookies, and hot cocoa will be served in the lobby at 6:15pm prior to the Saturday, December 7 show. Get in the holiday spirit with this beloved family tale based on the film by David Berenbaum. Tickets are $20/Adults, $15/Seniors and Children, or $50 for 5 tickets. Tickets available online at www.whartonarts.org.  Call (908) 790-0700 for more information.

The Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts’ mission is to provide the highest quality performing arts education to a wide range of students in a supportive and inclusive environment, where striving for personal excellence inspires and connects those they teach to the communities they serve.

Wharton is New Jersey’s largest independent non-profit community performing arts education center serving over 1,500 students through a range of classes and ensembles including the 15 ensembles of the New Jersey Youth Symphony, which serve 500 students in grades 3 – 12 by audition. Beginning with Out of the Box Music and Pathways classes for young children, Wharton offers private lessons, group classes, and ensembles for all ages and all abilities at the Performing Arts School. With the belief in the positive and unifying influence of music and the performing arts and that arts education should be accessible to all people regardless of their ability to pay, Wharton teaches all instruments and voice and has a robust musical theater program. Based in Paterson, New Jersey, the Paterson Music Project is an El Sistema-inspired program of the Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts that uses music as a vehicle for social change by empowering and inspiring children through the community experience of ensemble learning and playing.
