WPSC-FM To Celebrate Its Past With Special Broadcasts From Each Era

originally published: 11/30/2018

(WAYNE, NJ) — College radio is a period of time many who work in the industry never forget.  From December 3rd through the 8th, WPSC-FM (William Paterson University radio) will unite all of its previous eras of WPSC alumni for one, week-long celebration. It's a great way for the DJs to relive those days on the air and for students to remember the songs they listened to as students.

The college radio station, which was recently named the Noncommercial Station of the Year in the 2018 Marconi Radio Awards, will revive the sounds of previous decades starting on Monday, December 3rd.  As with many college radio stations, WPSC-FM has gone through many changes in format through the years. Previous students and graduates will return to the airwaves and relive the glory days when they were members of the station.  Each era will be broadcast for 24 hours before the station moves on to the next era.

The eras being recognized include: WPSC 59 AM Radio (Monday, December 3rd); WPSC-FM AP Radio (Tuesday, December 4th); Laser Hits PSC (Wednesday, December 5th); 88.7 Hit Radio (Thursday, December 6th); North Jersey’s Independent Rock (Friday, December 7th); and the current Brave New Radio (Saturday, December 8th).

The celebration will conclude with a special brunch held at Williams Paterson University on Saturday, December 8th.

“It’s very exciting and also an honor to be able to come back and recreate the Hit Radio format that we had when we were students here in the 90s,” said Mike Bonte, a 2000 WPUNJ graduate and WPSC Alumni.  “We have a great deal of gratitude towards the university towards making this happen.”

WPSC-FM have held many alumni takeover weekends in the past, but this is the first time they will recreate the sound and imaging of each era for each day that week.  For listeners, it will sound as if that specific era is currently on the radio.  WPSC-FM will also celebrate its recent NAB Marconi Award win as 2018 Non-Commercial Station of the Year.  This event also commemorates 30 years of broadcasting out of Wayne, NJ, as an FM licensed radio station, first launching in December 1988.

WPSC Station Manager Sebastian Escobar is enthusiastic about the event.  “It’s great for our current students to meet and work with those former students who paved the way for where WPSC is today,” he said.  “It’s also a lot of fun, so I urge people to tune in!”

You can listen to the station from anywhere in the world via its TuneIn page.
