Gas Lamp Players Presents A Christmas Carol: the Musical

originally published: 11/29/2018

(GLEN RIDGE, NJ) -- Gas Lamp Players presents its annual Main Stage production A Christmas Carol: the Musical, a family friendly holiday musical adaptation of the beloved Charles Dickens story. The production features a multi-generational cast of 105 adults, teens and children from Essex County.  Four performances will take place from December 7 through December 9.

A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

In addition to these well-known lead roles are countless supporting roles that create the hustle and bustle of mid-Victorian homes, workplaces and street scenes at the holidays. One musical highlight is “Christmas Together,” a panoramic view of joyful family reunions and 1840’s London cityscapes complete with singing, dancing and holiday merrymaking. The entire cast appears on stage during this number. A Christmas Carol is truly an ensemble driven Show.

A Christmas Carol was presented annually in December from 1994 to 2003, at New York City's Paramount Theatre in Madison Square Garden. Gas Lamp creates its own version of the holiday favorite, complete with fully produced costumes, sets, digital projections and a specially built passerelle that extends the dramatic action into the theater seating area.

The creative/production team includes Director Kristy Graves, Assistant Director SusanKnight Carlin, Co-Producers Meredith Eaton, Rennae Pelayo and Eileen Kelly, Musical Director Jess Glover, Technical Director Cyndi Owgang, Stage Manager Robert Lavagno, Set Designer Alecia Hurst Walton, Lighting Designer Nik Marmo, Sound Designer Nick Von Hagel, Costume Designer Lynne Oliver and Choreographers Jonathan Duvelson, Elisa Van Duyne and Conny Andres.
