Art629 To Host Earth Day After Party With Focus on Sustainability

originally published: 04/15/2018

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Art629 Gallery will host an Earth Day After Party on Tuesday, April 24 featuring two events.  From 2:30pm to 4:30pm, there is a lecture & webinar entitled "This is True" provided by the Waste consulting firm Environmental Service Management Group, Inc. (ESMG).  Then at 5:30pm to 7:30pm, there will be an unique arts-related networking party with a combination of education, art, and music under the theme of sustainability.

Art629 Gallery owner Patrick Schiavino has curated a collection titled “Recycled”, that includes various artists using reclaimed materials. Schiavino’s gallery is ground zero for the “Asbury Underground”, a free art and music festival that draws thousands of people to the famed Jersey Shore town each October. “Sustainability is everything and touches all of us,” says Schiavino, “which is why we are really excited to host this event and promote it through the Asbury Underground.”

This event demonstrates sustainability and carbon neutrality, through Green Building Center sponsorship and Sun Lab Studio, who will power much of the event through their mobil solar music studio. According to founder and musician, Kevin Grossman, Sun Lab helps artists to perform and record music in remote locations using only the power of the sun.

Earth Day After Party includes a unique networking event, Celebrating Sustainability, featuring locally grown cuisine and music by DIY rock band Homeless Apians. They perform using instruments made from discarded waste, making quite a literal statement for sustainability in the music world.

The "This is True" lecture and webinar will provide educational expertise in a two hour lecture and webinar broadcast. “This is TRUE” is an introduction to the new national zero waste standard. TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Zero Waste Standard is the newest product of Green Building Certification Inc. (GBCI), that administers a suite of well known green standards including LEED, EDGE, PEER. WELL and others.

“This is a real game changer” according to zero waste expert and TRUE Advisor, Mike Buono of ESMG. “TRUE gets it right helping organizations to validate processes improvements and purchasing behavior that eliminates trash generation, rather than just counting waste material produced and recycled.” He adds that, “TRUE uses the international accepted definition of zero waste accepting 90% landfill diversion and adds reuse and reduction to the equation, making Zero Waste truly achievable by the masses”.

“We have proved zero is achievable and cost effective, detailing dozens of projects in the Sustainable Trifecta: Zero Energy, Water and Waste presentation at Greenbuild, in Boston,” says Jason Kliwinski, AIA, LEED Fellow, whose Green Building Center is the education provider for the US Green Building Council NJ Chapter(USGBC-NJ). Both organizations are cosponsors of the event again this year.

Tickets for the afternoon THIS IS TRUE Lecture, credentialed webinar broadcast and evening Celebrating Sustainability events are available online.

Art629 Gallery is located at 629 Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
