(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Princeton Symphony Orchestra goes to the movies on Wednesday, November 8 at 6:00pm, as it presents the Academy Award-winning film Amadeus as part of its Soundtracks series with the Princeton Public Library. Amadeus was adapted from the hit play by its author, Sir Peter Shaffer. Described by Shaffer as “a fantasia based on fact,” Amadeus was inspired by persistent rumors from the early 19th century that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had been poisoned by a jealous rival, Antonio Salieri.

Directed by Milos Forman and released in 1985, the film won 8 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director. 160 minutes. Rated R. The music in Amadeus was recorded for the film by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields under the direction of Sir Neville Marriner. The soundtrack on Fantasy Records won the Grammy for Best Classical Album and was certified gold, selling over 100,000 copies.

The film is presented in advance of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra’s Sunday, November 12 All Mozart concert.
