FAQ PAGE

Here are a bunch of the questions we are often asked about advertising at New Jersey Stage. If you have a question that isn't answered here, you can email it to us at [email protected]

Advertising Questions

How many people are on the website?
New Jersey Stage reaches over one million unique visitors per year. Numbers taken from Awstats server statistics program.

How do users find articles on New Jersey Stage?
Many users find us from search engines or social media. Each article is promoted on Facebook, Twitter, Threads, and Bluesky. We also provide a daily round-up of stories from the previous day on our Instagram account. We are connected as a resource with A.I. chatbots. And many users share our articles among their social media network as well.

What type of banner ads do you offer?
We offer four ad sizes - three that are among the most popular banner ad sizes (300x250, 300x600, and 970x250) and one that we created ourselves (600x776). The latter is essentially an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper converted to web format. We believe it is the best size for promoting events.

How long does the ad run?
Ads can run for up to 3 months before the event for the price of one ad. This gives you plenty of time for advance ticket sales.

Can I pay extra to be the only ad on one specific page for a month?
Sorry, we like working with ad rotations and do not offer that as an option.

Is there a minimum number of months for an order?

No, you can purchase advertising for a single event or save the most by pre-paying for the entire year. Our goal is to help you, so we try to make advertising simple, affordable, and effective.

What is an "ad rotation"?
We use ad rotations to run through a list of banner ads in order for a category. This means the person visiting a page on our website will likely see a different ad than the next person visiting the same web page on our site. We have ad rotations for art, books, comedy, community, dance, film, kids, music, and theatre with specialized areas for music (classical, jazz, rock/pop).

I have a show coming up, how much does it cost to get an event listing?
We actually provide a complete web page for each event listing. The cost is $10 per event. If the event has multiple performances or days, you get an individual web page for each performance/day - all for the cost of one listing. Note: event listings are included with every banner ad purchase.

Why are your ad rates so much less than similar websites?
The mission behind New Jersey Stage is to offer affordable advertising for the arts. We know that many arts organizations have tight budgets, but promotion is important. We offer a place where any arts organization can afford to promote their events. This is accomplished by having a small staff (just one full-time employee) and volunteer writers. By keeping our costs down, we are able to offer advertising at a much lower rate.

Do you offer discounted rates for non-profits?
We do not offer discounted rates as our ad rates are already low ($50-$100 for banner ads, event listings for $10) and most of our advertisers are non-profits.

Is New Jersey Stage a non-profit?
No, we are not. While many news outlets have become non-profits over the past decade, New Jersey Stage believes we should not be competing with the very arts organizations we report on for grant money. We view ourselves as more of a partner to the arts.

Do you offer free banner ad design?
Yes, if you do not have a graphic designer, New Jersey Stage can create banner ads for you. We do not charge for ad design.

Can I send ads for several shows at once and have them scheduled to run?
Absolutely. Our system allows us to schedule ads between any starting and ending period and we often have advertisers send us multiple ads to be scheduled in advance.

If my event gets rescheduled to a different date, what happens then?
New Jersey Stage is glad to offer an ad to promote the new date at no additional charge.

How can I pay for my ads?
We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and checks. You can pay online from this link.

Audience & Demographics

What can you tell us about your audience?

* GENDER - New Jersey Stage has traditionally had an audience with a nearly 50/50 split between men and women.

* AGES - We've got a strong audience for all age brackets with nearly a third of our visitors being 18-34 (29%); the largest segment is 35-54 at 40%; and we have nearly a third being over 54 (31%)

* HOUSEHOLD INCOME - Our audience is above average for $150K household income

* EDUCATION - Our audience is above average for college and graduate school (approximately 70% of the audience)

Who reads New Jersey Stage?
We have a very interesting audience from people interested in the arts to those working in the arts (industry professionals, artists, playwrights, directors, actors, musicians, filmmakers, writers, dancers, comedians, etc.) to arts councils and government officials. Venues, town officials, and tourist bureaus read us, too. We have worked hard to establish a reputation as a place to get news about the arts.

How many unique visitors do you have each year?
It depends on which stat program is used. One program said we had a half million unique visitors in 2023 and another said we had a million. We tend to believe the true number is somewhere between the two.

Editorial Questions

Do you offer sponsored posts or link insertions?
No, New Jersey Stage does not offer either. We believe that cheapens a website.

Do advertisers get free editorial?
We try to help out our advertisers as much as possible. If they have events coming up, we will regularly run event preview articles to keep them in our news. Advertisers also get event preview articles turned into feature articles as well so the articles have more exposure throughout the website.

What else do you do for advertisers?
Every Tuesday, we run columns listing the events of the week. Event listings for our advertisers are highlighted there along with any show previews. We also try to promote one advertiser each day on Instagram with our Morning Update, which tells people about the stories we ran the previous day. Plus advertisers who are on a yearly plan with us get a free, bonus ad to promote their annual fundraiser or gala events.

Can you explain the monthly setup for non-advertisers?
New Jersey Stage has created an internal list of venues and arts organization across the state that we create event previews for each week. While advertisers get all of their shows promoted, non-advertisers only get one show preview per month. This setup allows us to maintain a nice balance of arts coverage for all genres and regions of the state, while letting our advertisers get more promotion. With ad rates as low as $50 per month, we think advertising with New Jersey Stage is a great deal.

Two amazing shorts screen at Fall 2025 New Jersey Film Festival on Sunday, September 7!

by Morgan Kalmbach

One of the most interesting facets of art is how different artists can choose to represent the same themes based on their experiences in feelings. Oftentimes, subjects or ideas can manifest in different ways for certain artists, creating differences in how they depict them. One may represent a subject through a faster-moving and vibrant work, while another may portray it as gloomy and stoic.  Despite these two depictions being vastly different, they both represent the subject and how the artist connects and views it. Two great examples of this contrast of portrayals within the theme of loss are Martin Gerigk’s Prayer of the Sea and Sasha Alexander Vorobyev’s What a Surprise. These works differ greatly in their story and look, but both experiment with color and shot size to explore the complex theme of loss.

A beautiful, heartwarming story of two people whose past struggles prevented their love in their youth, finding their way back to each other in the end. From emotional voiceovers that evoke shared experience and connection, to characters whose personality is so clearly depicted they seem to be jumping out of the screen "Pierre West" is a short film that balances heartbreak, hope and love as perfectly tripodal as it could.

Artists Catherine Murphy and Harry Roseman are featured in Marta Renzi and Daniel Wolff's documentary Cathy & Harry in the midst of exhibitions, producing new work, and living together. They complement each other in their styles and concepts—Cathy in her representational painting and realism and Harry in his shapeshifting material pieces. Both are known for a meticulous, drawn-out work ethic and their love of each other. Shown in their home studios, galleries, public works and daily lives, we are given a glimpse of the process behind the product. The couple each tote prolific careers.

Art doc Cathy & Harry screens at the New Jersey Film Festival on Sunday, September 28!

by Morgan Kalmbach
published 2025-09-25

In their documentary film, Cathy & Harry, Marta Renzi and Daniel Wolff present the works and uniquely dynamic personalities of Catherine Murphy and Harry Roseman, two award-winning, notable artists, as well as a married couple. The film centers on Murphy and Roseman, while showcasing their artworks and stories as well as their relationship to one another and their views on life, each other, and the world around them. The film is unique in its less formal approach, taking its time to connect with the characters and enter their world, rather than them telling us who they are. This, alongside the inclusions of art and unique locations, cement Cathy & Harry as a poignant portrayal of two artists who seek to question, create, and connect.

Illuminating doc Chœurs Atlantiques screens at the Fall 2025 New Jersey Film Festival on Friday, October 3!

by Jack Bolton

There is an idea within the current political sphere, mostly among the right-wing, that we shouldn’t talk about slavery. This idea is supported by such talking points as “we don’t want white kids to feel bad for being white” or “this only matters to black people". For example, the French government had, a few decades ago, created the slogan, “We were all born in 1848”, the year they abolished slavery. To people like Emmanuel Gordien, it implied that slavery never existed. However, the horrors of the past will not stay silent. Safoi Babana-Hampton’s Chœurs Atlantiques | Tales from the Atlantic Beyond is a tribute to the victims of slavery that, in the words of Gordien, “Find all our ancestors,  understand all their history… and finally, to honor them”.
